Bus Trip No 52 to Bambous - A retired postman
At a steetcorner nearby, we met a very friendly street vendor. The way he used his bicycle as a stall for his vegetables immediately caught our attention and obviously we asked for a picture.
As soon as we started asking him where can we find such bicycle, Rames Desse told us about his life as a retired postman.
He said “sa bicyclette la ena plis ki 50 ans” - This bicycle has a history that goes back about 50 years.
When he started working as a postman, he was given this bicycle which came straight from England,to deliver door to door letters and parcels in Port -Louis.As the conversation went on, we learned that throughout his career which started in 1962 and ended 2006, he got promoted several times. He listed all the post that he had been assigned to. He started as a day-man messenger, then a telegraph messenger - Postman - Senior postman - Inspector of postman.
“Monn pass tous sa etape la” he said
Now, he is a retired man dedicated to his vegetable garden who spend the morning selling his crops.
